Legal challenges and tyrannies are halting the lives and well-being of the transgender community in their tracks.
Join us in a letter writing to campaign at the greenwood mall food court so we can challenge all discriminatory practices, walls and hurdles placed in front of a disenfranchised group.
Six points to be hit on:
1. Ending legal hurdles that inhibit transgender people from getting their legal name and gender changed- transgender residents in Indiana are required to get their name changed published in a newspaper which is a process that costs hundreds of dollars.
2. Free or more affordable HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) and Sexual Reassignment Surgery provided to the transgender community- transgender people should not have to wait months to years for something so desperately needed for their well-being.
3. Ending all transphobia in the criminal justice system- transgender woman should not be sent to men’s prisons and no one should legally be allowed to claim that a crime was justified because the victim of it was transgender.
4. The promotion of government uplift programs that help lift transgender people up from poverty and general economic suffering- the transgender community faces a high amount of poverty, unemployment and homelessness because of their gender identity.
5. The legal recognition and affirmation of non-binary identities- it must be made clear to policy makers that there are identities beyond “man” and “woman”.
6. Transgender affirmation in all K-12 educational establishments- have all curriculum, policies and staff in schools no matter public or private be safe for transgender youth.
The targets of our letters:
1. Indiana State Senate.
2. Indiana House of Representatives.
3. Indianapolis City Council.
4. Indiana's representatives in both US senate and congress.
Let our voices be heard and progress be made!
