Participants needed! As we strive to continuously enhance our operations and create an inclusive environment where all members of our community have equal access to full participation in all of our programs, Indy Pride is excited to announce a new collaborative partnership with Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS). IPAS, a member of the National Disability Rights Network, is the federally designated governmental entity that provides legal and advocacy services for the protection, promotion and empowerment of the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities throughout Indiana.
Indy Pride recognizes that “disability” is an umbrella term that encompasses a vast range of experiences including (but not limited to) mobility, sensory, visual, communicative, and cognitive differences. Accessibility isn’t just a compliance standard—it’s an attitude. Likewise, “inclusion” isn’t just limited to the physical presence of diversity—it is about the full participation of diversity.
Our first step towards accomplishing this initiative is to hear from you! We will be hosting a community focus group on Wednesday April 27, 2016 from 6-7:30p at the IPAS facility located at 4701 North Keystone Ave., Suite 222 (Indianapolis). The targeted discussion of this group will address barriers to accessibility that are often present at community events utilizing an outdoor venue space as well as suggestions/recommendations for inclusive design to be incorporated into the future planning across all of our programs.
If you are not available to join us but would still like to contribute your feedback, send us an email! All comments and questions can be directed to our Accessibility Coordinator, Elizabeth Goldman, at accessibility@indypride.org.
