Some rude security staff! They have a lot of themed events, but it rare to have leather only events in there upstairs. For god sakes it's a leather bar. Not sure I would recommend it.
New owners make it THE, "club".
This bar was recently bought out by Tom V. All of the bartenders have retired, ___________________________________________________________________ This now has improved it to be one of the best bars that the new owners have ever owned. His customers are treated as friends._______________________________ Wonderful leather bar with lots of history. Dcor is dark and "working class" but that's why you go to the 501. Bartenders are generous pourers. I've been to several leather contests and fundraisers there and the owners are always very supportive. The first floor has a large bar, coat check (which I think should be required by law at all bars and clubs) and several pool tables. Upstairs doesn't open until after 10:00. Up there you'll find another pool table, boot black station on weekends, and various "Leather Stations" which I will not go into detail here. The bar selection is broad, even local microbrews are on tap downstairs. I like that they have hanky cheat sheets in the bathroom (Google "Hanky Code" if you want to know what I'm talking about) and lots of pictures from past events on the walls. While it no longer has the dark hallway of olden days, the 501 has a clear sense of history, while spinning modern tunes and libations, which if you think about it sums up Leather...respect for the past, but let's have a kick a$$ time during the present. Don't be too intimidated by the leather vibe. It's still a very welcoming place for gay or straight, leather or not. Just trade in your pink polo for a white t 'shirt (or no shirt if you really want to fit in), or if you've just got to wear that pink polo for god's sake don't pop the collar...you're ruining it for the rest of us.
Love it!
Friendly bartenders, strong drinks, and a very mixed crowd make the 501 a great place to go! It is a lot more fetish-oriented on the off nights, but Friday and Saturday brings in a lot more variety. Be sure to climb around on the spider web! ;)
Bad!!!
Bartenders are good, drinks are reasonable, but "security" staff is rude!!! This really is so much a leather bar... As it is a place where some leather people hang out. Since they have 2 levels they need to enforce a dress code upstairs or something. Change some of the rude staff and get back to the basics of a leather bar. Until then this bar is a waste!
Really Bad! Rude staff!
The staff here is really rude. There is no dress code so anyone is welcome from women to pretty boys to men in leather. This bar hides under the name gay leather/Levi bar but is a complete embarrassment. Rude staff false advertisement! I advise stay away!
