Leather/Levi/Bear bar
Two floors of levis, leather and bears. No, you didn't die and go to heaven, you are at the 501Eagle. Friendly bartenders pour strong drinks. Be sure to chalk up your stick for some pool playing action on first level.

Leather Is Just Another Form of Drag
I went here looking for some real men. It's mostly just old queenie guys dressed up like it's Halloween. They have drag shows here. The bathroom is full of disgusting guys having sex. There is usually urine all over the floor. The beer selection is lousy. Most of the bartenders are not very quick. They spend too much time hanging out with their friends.

      friendly congrats
right after my husband and I got married the 501 was the first place we hit that evening. it was announced we had just gotten married and every guy on the second floor came over to congratulate us, buy us drinks and in general show us a great time...THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! we went back the next night for drinks and a bit of fun on fetish night. I admit its not what it was once. only 3 guys that we saw stripped down. but the drinks were cheap and strong the guys were friendly again. we give it a 8.5 out of 10

      Not fun
I'm an out of towner. I've had 2 or 3 good times here in probably the 20 times I've been to this bar. If you like being ignored and left to sit alone; led on and used for your money by a certain fill-in bartender; being laughed at while patrons shake their head at you from across the room; stared at from apparent interest, but never being approached; being talked about derogatively by someone nearby, loud enough so you could hear; meet someone, sleep with them, and next time you see them, they ignore you, then this is your bar. Gonna look for another bar to visit when I'm in town from now on. Between cover charge and 1 beer and tip, it cost me $9. I couldn't stand it any longer. I've had enough of the 501 eagle crowd! Last few times its been close to empty and I can see why.

      sub par
Some rude security staff! They have a lot of themed events, but it rare to have leather only events in there upstairs. For god sakes it's a leather bar. Not sure I would recommend it.

New owners make it THE, "club".
This bar was recently bought out by Tom V. All of the bartenders have retired, ___________________________________________________________________ This now has improved it to be one of the best bars that the new owners have ever owned. His customers are treated as friends._______________________________ Wonderful leather bar with lots of history. Dcor is dark and "working class" but that's why you go to the 501. Bartenders are generous pourers. I've been to several leather contests and fundraisers there and the owners are always very supportive. The first floor has a large bar, coat check (which I think should be required by law at all bars and clubs) and several pool tables. Upstairs doesn't open until after 10:00. Up there you'll find another pool table, boot black station on weekends, and various "Leather Stations" which I will not go into detail here. The bar selection is broad, even local microbrews are on tap downstairs. I like that they have hanky cheat sheets in the bathroom (Google "Hanky Code" if you want to know what I'm talking about) and lots of pictures from past events on the walls. While it no longer has the dark hallway of olden days, the 501 has a clear sense of history, while spinning modern tunes and libations, which if you think about it sums up Leather...respect for the past, but let's have a kick a$$ time during the present. Don't be too intimidated by the leather vibe. It's still a very welcoming place for gay or straight, leather or not. Just trade in your pink polo for a white t 'shirt (or no shirt if you really want to fit in), or if you've just got to wear that pink polo for god's sake don't pop the collar...you're ruining it for the rest of us.

      Love it!
Friendly bartenders, strong drinks, and a very mixed crowd make the 501 a great place to go! It is a lot more fetish-oriented on the off nights, but Friday and Saturday brings in a lot more variety. Be sure to climb around on the spider web! ;)

      Bad!!!
Bartenders are good, drinks are reasonable, but "security" staff is rude!!! This really is so much a leather bar... As it is a place where some leather people hang out. Since they have 2 levels they need to enforce a dress code upstairs or something. Change some of the rude staff and get back to the basics of a leather bar. Until then this bar is a waste!

      Really Bad! Rude staff!
The staff here is really rude. There is no dress code so anyone is welcome from women to pretty boys to men in leather. This bar hides under the name gay leather/Levi bar but is a complete embarrassment. Rude staff false advertisement! I advise stay away!

      501 - Love in a Bar
One of the best bars in indianapolis at this time. great barkeeps, nice friendly people. daily events keep it interesting through the week with special events monthly from having pornstars come do a show/meet n greet to super cheap drink nights.

The bar is kind of like a leather bear...
It may look intimidating, but it's really just a lovable softy. Love this place for the same reason I like a lot of bear bars. The guys are typically just about having a good time with little pretense. Everyone can feel comfortable here, and if you're a bear fan like me, you feel WAY comfortable. The bar staff is super friendly. The clientele is approachable and adorable. It's a bit smokey for me, but i can deal with it. Lots of fun toys upstairs to inspire the imagination. Good place to give a big midwestern man a squeeze. Careful though, midwestern boys may be mild-mannered, but they are kinky as hell.

      I love this place!
Another reviewer compare this place as inferior to the Dallas Eagle. I used to work there and hang there. I'd rather be in the 501 any day. Such a plethora of handsome friendly men of all types, and without the bigotry I was so accustomed to in Dallas. As for the cover, it's $3 the couple of times I've gone. I can live with that. Music rocks, staff's friendly, and smokers can light up indoors. When I come ti Indy, I go to the 501.
