Classic gay Indy with a mixed male/female crowd
You know the saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to". The Varsity is the oldest gay bar still in operation in Indianapolis. Here you will be sure to find a friendly bartender and congenial crowd. Kitchen serves a full menu so bring your appetite.

I pulled up and it looked closed. Looks like a place where you would get robbed.

      Kiddie Land
It's 2x smaller than the 10 .. limited seating drinks are high and its hit or miss.. Sometimes it may be a chill crowd or it might feel like it's a school Lock in.

To the redheads at the Varsity.... You two are awesome!!!! It's what the bar has needed for the longest time, just great people with (as Thomas would say) great energy! Jeremy is by far the best bartender who also sings karaoke while still tending bar and Thomas well he is just a dancing fool! The two together are enough enjoyment to watch that there is no other place you have to go for entertainment! To the new owner I have to say this.... These two are by far the best decision you have made to the bar! Thank you! Now let's see more of the redheads working the bar! Since you just opened the bar, I give you three stars! As there is more to look forward to!

      Could be a great place
Other than this place needing a total remodel, this is a great bar. Good food and great bartenders. Love the history of this place

Popy Cock on the below crap reviews, I first visited varsity in 1982. The fact that little has changed is the draw. Great food and hang out, if your too fagile for the neighborhood, stay home No you don't find the youngest guys, but the experience says alot about the place. Quit being scared of older dudes.

      Spent my birthday there.
I was just stopping in for a bite to eat before I went out to party on my birthday, well lets just say, that was as far as I got that night. I had a blast, the customers and bar staff and a couple of my friends was all I needed that night. Very well (not) planned night that went so right.Thank you Varsity for a memorable night.

      Not safe
Had an unsafe experience with persons hanging out and following upon departure. If you must go, be careful!

    • Good place for ????
This is one of the best clubs in Indy. The music and atmosphere can not be beat. This is the place to go if you don't want to deal with the just turned 29 crowd. The older and more mature customers make this the best night club experience.

As for a major club promoter from Tampa, Fl I have to give them major props, they have great and friendly bartenders who show lots of attention and remember you. Almost like cheers very low key. Only con is sometimes you gotta feed the juke box. BUT EXCELLENT , EXCELLENT FOOD! Start here and then take your adventure.

      Varsity why?
The Varsity is going thru a nice change. Going from an old gay bar to a middle age bar. Great place to get some good food and people are so friendly there. Fun bar to start and end the night at.
